The Good
1)reasonable prices for rooms upstairs
2)Great house when empty
3) Nice area
House is great if the Landlord's are not there, BUT they just always are. They find excuses to live there.
The landlord told me they are there once in a while to check up on things but otherwise the house is quiet and only the tenants live there.
The BAD
1)The landlords parents were always at the home. Every single day. They never ever left unless they had a Dr appointment or to go grocery shopping. I asked why they were there, Initially the reason was to rent the rooms and do some "renovations" after the renovations the story changed. The landlord's mother said it was her right to be there and that "I could take it or leave it, That she would would always be there during weekdays and that her daughter would be at the home on weekends."
*******The real reason they landlords parents are there are to "Supervise tenants" read below for details*****
2)The landlord's parents took up the entire fridge in with their food and moved my things without asking me or other tenants and threw things out without any notice, There was always room for their food.
3) Constant loud talking, we could hear everything they would say because the landlords spoke so loud, Never in english, Always in Albanian. from 9:30AM when they wake up, until 11:30PM after watching loud movies and finally going to bed
4) Initially I was told the dishwasher was broken. Then I was told not to waste water washing my own dishes and that the dishwasher should be 100% full then turned on
THE REALLY REALLY BAD
( Like living with someone else's parents)
1) Going into tenants rooms when tenants are not home.
Lock your door? No problem!
I witnessed the Landlord's use their keys to get inside and have a look around, touch things. Every single room. Only when tenants are not home.
***AND they will never tell you they went to your room, your washroom and touched your things. and won't ever admit to it. they will deny it. Which landlord would admit to it?
Several times I closed my door but did not lock it, when I came home I noticed my door was closed but locked ( Only the landlord has keys)
The Landlord's either sleep and keep a watch on everyone from a spare bedroom OR they will sleep on the sofa just so they can stay at the house.
One roommate was away for work so the landlords decided it was ok to sleep and make use of the room.
*****You Will never have privacy, Unless you stay in your own room*****
2) Items Used/stolen
A few times I noticed items used or missing.
3) Not a place to bring friends or guests, The landlords just won't allow it. Cannot invite your BF/GF even though you pay rent.
Why Other tenants left
1) Invasion of privacy
2) Being bullied and supervised constantly
3)
After confronting them with the above issues, I was suddenly told they had promised my room to a "friend" months ago and that I had 4 weeks to move out, None of this was told to me when I signed the lease.
I was then told people wanted to see my room to rent and they could show it anytime from 10:00AM to 8:00PM, ( The friend magically disappeared)
POLICE DRAMA
The Landlord called the Police on a roommate who stood up to her. To Intimidate and threaten
She told the police every excuse, every lie to try to get another roommate in trouble when they stood up to her.
She said anything she could to get them in trouble with the law.
She wanted this roommate to lose their job and their ability to drive to work
Her threat was do as we say or else.
She told police the tenant had threatened to burn the house down and she was afraid for her life.
No police action was taken. But this petty and bad action made me want to leave ASAP.
I was fearful that the landlord would try to get me in trouble so I tried to avoid them until i moved out.
